(Upgrade an above ground pool to swim-spa) ![]() Aquatic Therapy Hammock My name is Chris Brindle and my invention the Aquatic Therapy Hammock may be able to help you. If you find it's no good, send it back any time in the first 60 days for a complete refund. "Sea-Hammock" is wonderful for relaxing in warm water and doing gentle exercises. It makes "Range of Movement" exercises much easier and more pleasant to do than on land. It's a completely unique product that I invented so that I could sit in my warm swimming pool in the Summer and read a book for an hour or more without freezing in the Summer breeze, or baking in the fierce sun. I then realised it would be great to take to the beach - hence the name "Sea-Hammock." The Hammock won a best new product award in France and then people started to tell me how much better they felt after using it, and how their aches and pains had disappeared. I met a Watsu therapist from Italy who explained to me the benefits of exercising in water heated to around 34°C. Soaking in a warm bath is time-honoured method of pain relief and relaxation but the Sea Hammock allows you to enjoy this anywhere there's warm water around 3 feet deep - whilst gently exercising at the same time - in total comfort and without getting bored. To get over these benefits I gave the "Sea-Hammock" an extra name the "Aquatic Therapy Hammock". I asked the BackCare charity to test the Hammock for me and a review from their Hull and East Riding Branch appears in the Autumn 2007 edition of "Talkback". They said, "There are two uses for the hammock - as an aquatic "lounger" and as a means of exercising in water. The hammock is a very comfortable lounger, allowing one to sit or lie with the body immersed in water and the head is well supported clear of the water. It is easy to change position between sitting and lying. The hammock was very successful in this respect, and members had to be persuaded to get off to allow others to have a turn. The exercising effect is brought about by applying gentle foot pressure on the frame to repeatedly alternate between sitting and lying. The exercise is very gentle and may suit people who are weak after a bout of severe back pain and wanting a gradual introduction to exercise...the general opinion was that this would be great to have on holiday, or if you have your own pool." The Hammock will be on display in an insulated above ground pool at "The Back Show" Olympia on October 6-7th 2007. Warm Water Therapy - especially in the UK Perhaps readers could tell me about this. Where can you go in the U.K. to take advantage of warm water therapy sessions ? I'll put any information I find on this site. In the absence of being able to find a warm pool to use, you might need one of your own, and your budget may not stretch to a commercial "swim-spa" and you might feel you'd like more space than these provide. Elsewhere on this site you'll find my suggestion that you take a Doughboy Premier or Whispers 12 foot diameter above ground pool and insulate it well by clipping on insulation to the outside, and use a high efficiency surface cover. I suggest you heat it by means of a Calorex Heat Pump (which have models that perform well in the Spring and Autumn in the U.K., and indeed all-year-round). I then suggest you add a Badu-Jet over-the-wall counter-current swimming machine, which will allow you to exercise in a small place, and by turning up the air intake into the water stream, turn the pool into something very similar to a Spa. You'll also see on the Pleasure-Dome page that I'm looking for opportunities to build more prototypes of this enclosure system. In conclusion many thanks for reading this page and looking at the web-site.
